giveaway #1

My web site is fully stocked with new sachet stacks in yummy bright colors including one in red and green that's perfect for the holiday. The one shown here, also in Christmasy colors, is the kickoff to the giveaways I'll be doing this month. I'm not sure how many yet but at least one more.

sachet stack

In case you don't know, my sachet stacks are crafted from vintage and vintage-inspired fabrics in 4", 5", and 6" sizes, stacked three up, and tied with a grosgrain ribbon. This one features a red and white polkadot, a vintage green stripe, and a newer poinsettia and holly print on a black background and is tied with red ribbon. Each individual sachet is filled with a mixture of lavender buds and buckwheat hulls. Just give them a squeeze to refresh the scent.

Let's mix things up a little this time. Leave a comment but not just any comment—tell me your favorite holiday memory. You have until midnight Tuesday. On Wednesday morning I'll choose a winner and post the name here. And I'll tell you one of my favorite memories. The winner can then email me their shipping address and I'll have it in the mail on my next trip to the post office.

Are you in? Then, send me a memory!

P.S. I moderate comments so don't panic if you don't see yours right away—it just means I'm away from my computer.

My favorite memory is more the carrying on of tradition...family together opening gifts, a yummy supper and a lazy day. As my boy gets older I think we will have a lot more memories!

Ooooh how exciting! Such lovely sachets :) My favourite Christmas memory is from the 1st Christmas me and my other half spent together. He had given me a beautiful heart shaped pendant for Christmas and as we walked round to a friend's house that evening it started to snow, it was so romantic, a real white Christmas :) x

My favorite Chrismas memory is a remembrance of Christmas at my grandmother's house. (I think I must have been about 7. I even remember the yellow pajamas I wore to bed!) I remember the caroler figure candles on the piano, a tree with lots of tinsel and big colored lights and the nervousness I felt when I went to bed. Had I been good enough? What was Santa going to bring for me? I was so relieved when I went downstairs in the morning to see lots of gifts with my name. I HAD been good!!

One of my favorite holiday memories is of a nightgown that my Mother made for me. We did'nt have much money and it was a big thing because the material had to be store bought. It had big red roses on a white background and she made me a mop cap to go with it. I wore that nightgown until I literally could not put it on anymore. It was my favorite nightgown ever!

One of my best holiday memories was going to our grandparents on Christmas Eve, having dinner, reading the Christmas Story from Luke 2 and being able to take my boyfriend, who then became my husband!!!!!

My favorite memory is actually a Thanksgiving memory: one Thanksgiving while spending it with my family at Mom and Pop's, they decided to roast hot dogs and make smores. The grandkids were stunned. The looks on their faces when it came time to warm up those marshmallows were priceless!

My favorite memory is the tradition we have with my family. On the day before Christmas Eve my husband, daughter, (soon to be son too!), and I order pizza, open ornaments for each other and hang them on the tree, then we eat cookies and hot chocolate and watch White Christmas. We do it every year and I love it mostly because it wasn't a tradition we carried in from our childhood but just sort of created for us.

My favorite memory was from last Christmas. My husband got very sick during the beginning of December and was in the hospital. It was very scary (he is okay though). He was able to come home on Christmas Eve. He hadn't had time to shop for me, so he had me take him to Walgreens and he bought me a bunch of silly stuff there.

That Christmas was the best every. We sat around at home with our dog and just enjoyed being together.

It is hard to choose just one great Christmas memory. I have great memories of every Christmas. But if I have to choose just one I guess it would be when I was small and we were at my grandma's..my favorite place to be. I loved her silver tree with the color wheel. It was Christmas eve and we were there along with my cousins when we heard a loud noise on the roof. I know now it had to be one of my uncles but I remember the excitement of thinking that santa had come. We were too afraid to look outside but when we finally did we saw tracks in the snow! It was great.

My favorite memory is from childhood. We used to get together with my aunts at my grandma's house (my mom's mom) and have a Christmas cookiepalooza. We'd make probably 10 or so different kinds of cookies - enough for each family to take home several tins. We'd keep them in the freezer. My sisters and I would try to sneak some, but it was awfully difficult eating the frozen cookies!

One of favorite Christmas memory is going to bed and all was green. During the night it began to snow. When we woke up it was a winter wonderland of snow. Everything wore a beautiful blanket of snow.

We were putting out presents after my daughter went to bed. She came out and saw her bike, she was two then. She says, "I bike". Yes we let her play with her bike for a few before putting her back in bed.
I Love lavender!!!!!!!!!!!

mmm...my favorite memory would have to be the year I was 11...my aunt worked for Kraft foods and came over with a large tray of Kraft cheeses, sausages and crackers, chips, etc. We had a houseful as aunts and uncles all came over...we stayed up a very long time, laughing and telling stories...

My favorite christmas memory was the year my parents had purchased a kit of wooden christmas ornaments from Sears. Us kids me (aged 10), my middle sister Sandra (aged 8) and my baby sister Sonya (aged 4) were allowed to paint the ornaments. Then when they were dried they were hung on the Christmas tree. My parents still hang them on the tree to this day and we have fun discussing and pointing out which ones we painted. Sharon C

Love your sachets - my favorite Christmas memory is attending Midnight mass. To the five of us, this was something really special as we never were allowed to stay up this late - except on Christmas eve! The snow was always glistening and all was so calm - church was full of candles all glowing and beautiful. Wonderful memories these are!

In middle school, I would stretch out on the floor and work on my science homework under the Christmas tree. I liked how the multi-color Christmas lights lit up the papers in my trapper-keeper.

I felt terribly grown up. Sometimes I would put the John Denver+Muppets Christmas record on, and remember loving that album in the "good old days".

Besides, doesn't reading about the periodic table go faster when you're listening to Scooter lead everyone in a round of "Christmas is Coming"?

One of my favorite Christmas was when I was 10 years old. My father was in the Navy, and couldn't be home fot Christmas that year. My mother was determined to make it as festive as she could. We chopped down our own tree, and it was so big we had to trim it three times, just to get it in the door. My mother had purchased a Santa pinata and had it hidden way in the back under the tree. She would tell us "Santa is watching. You had better be good!" Then she would laugh and laugh and laugh. That was over 45 years ago, and I still laugh every time I think about it.

Ooh, this is an easy one. When I was about 5 or 6 we were spending the night at my grandparent's home on Christmas Eve. My grandpa was a cattleman & often had to go deliver calves in the middle of the night. That Christmas Eve my cousin & I woke up in the middle of the night to find Santa in our living room. We were so excited we ran to get everyone up. Of course, we were dying for our grandpa to meet Santa too, but unfortunately, he had to deliver a calf that night! I have the best picture of Santa holding me & my cousin. I love it b/c it was of course my grandpa, but what tickles me is how funny the Santa costumes were 20 something years ago. Nothing like the fancy ones these days. But we loved him all the same! Happy holidays! Jessica

My favorite memory of a past Christmas was when my Dad was stationed in Argentia and while away had bought me a troll doll. When I woke up expecting to find wonderful toys from Santa, instead there was this "huge" life size troll doll that scared the living daylights out of me for months to come. Now I look back on it with fond memories of my dad and his travels with the Navy and a fond Christmas memory.

Ah, dear me. I have lived in Southern California all my life, and near the coast at that. I don't have any "white Christmas" memories. No Victoriana or anything like that. But...

My grandparents lived in a great 1930s vintage house on a tree-lined street in Burbank. On Christmas day in the afternoon the whole family would descend on that house for a family gathering. They would set up tables in the garage, because that was where there was enough room. Aunts, cousins, step-cousins, half-cousins, we all got together to open a few presents, play bocci, and eat.

The tree was white plastic, and they had one of those rotating lights so that the tree turned red, blue, green, and gold tinted in turn. We all opened a gift each from my grandparents, generally clothes, and then got to the real festivities. Grammy Genet cooked a feast of turkey and stuffing and speghetti with homemade tomato sauce from last summer's tomatoes (there is a whole other story in that one) and salad with avodados and anise cookies and pie.

The real memory is the stuffing. I didn't appreciate the stuffing until I was in my late teens and brought a boyfriend to the party. I realized that the stuffing was green. Grammy made it with sausage and spinach and it was divine. But to the newcomer, the color could be...well...off-putting. So I told my boyfriend that the stuffing was very green, and to just try some, because it was great and they would love it, trust me. It turned out to be a great test of boyfriends. Which may be the very best present of all.

And that is a Southern California Christmas memory. Happy Holidays to all!
