pattern book sale

handkerchief edgings

I buy a lot of this type of handkerchief for use in my lavender sachets. I like to layer them under a printed or embroidered hanky because just one never seems like enough.

I'm always impressed at the amount of work that went into their creation. I don't crochet myself and I don't know anyone who does tatting or hairpin lace these days (if I did I'd ask them to teach me). But, if you'd like to give it a try, I have lots of vintage pattern books on my site. Look for ones with Edgings in the titles.

And this month I'm offering blog readers a special deal—buy one pattern book and get the second for half price. Just go ahead and order the two that you want and I'll either refund the difference if you've paid with Paypal or deduct it from your total before processing your credit card. No discount code needed—just mention the sale in the comment section when you check out. Or, if you'd prefer, email the pattern numbers for the books you want and I'll send you a Paypal or credit card invoice. Any of these options are fine with me.

Happy April Fool's Day today! It's supposed to be in the 70s here—I hope that's not an April Fool's joke :)

Where do you find those hankies? They're so beautiful.

They are pretty, aren't they? I find most of them at flea markets, antique malls, and on Ebay. Sometimes I get lucky and people send them to me :)

My son's burping cloths all had that vintage hankie look. My Mom took Curity prefolded diapers and added crochet trim to them. I now use them for dusting (he is fourteen, and they saw a lot of spit up in their hay day, LOL!) but I think the most amazing thing is that after all the use, the bleach, the washing (almost daily!) some are still with me and the crochet is intact. Unbelievable!
BTW. My Mom still makes them for all the new babies in our family, it's her "thing". LOL! =)
