not a hummingbird
Although it hovers and hums when it feeds on flowers just like one. This is a hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) feeding on my butterfly bush. We have hummingbirds, too, and I've seen them fighting with these moths over the bee balm in my herb garden. Nature in action :)

Thank you so much for identifying this. I saw it the other night at dusk. It was hovering around my tall flox. At first I thought it was a teeny tiny hummingbird but then as I got closer I could tell it was some kind of month.
Me too I have them and I find it so beatiful. Thanks for identifying it.
Around here we call them "Lady Birds" I see them all of the time hovering around the Rose of Sharons and the Butterfly Bushes..I love watching them....
